Unita BJJ Reviews

"I've trained at multiple BJJ gyms and this spot is a clear standout. Coach Dax and the team excel at breaking down complex techniques into digestible steps, which I especially appreciate as someone who thinks analytically about learning and progression. The instruction works perfectly for all skill levels. Started here last year with some prior experience and have seen consistent improvement thanks to their structured approach. The environment is refreshingly ego-free - everyone's focused on mutual growth and development. Whether you're just starting BJJ or looking for a new gym, this is the place. Professional, technical, and welcoming without any pretense. Exactly what you want in a BJJ gym."

"Unita feels like home. As someone who has been to many gyms, this is one of my favorites. It is well-tailored to your goals (fitness, competition, fun, etc.). Dax, Tony, Sam, and Maria make this environment fun and lively. The curriculum is solid. Drills can be adjusted to your interests and experience. The open mats are exciting without being overly aggressive. Would highly recommend."

"Incredible gym. I am brand new to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and from day one I always felt welcome. Everyone is friendly and helpful. It is a really great learning environment. Safety is also a top priority here which I appreciate. Everyone looks out for each other. I highly recommend this gym for all levels of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu."

"I love to stop into Unita whenever I am in the Upper Vally. They consistently have great instruction, and fantastic training partners. But most importantly they are super welcoming, and offer a safe and clean training environment. Anyone in the UV area who wants to try out BJJ should give them a look!"

"I started training here with absolutely no prior experience, but was welcomed by everyone at the gym. I've always felt safe and comfortable as a beginner here. The coaches and training partners focus on technique, emphasizing improvement over competition, which I really appreciate. This gym was a fantastic place to start my BJJ journey.

"Excellent BJJ school - unexpected gem in a little town in NH. High points: - Coach Dax is a BJ black-belt who has been practicing BJJ for > 20 years and teaching it for nearly as long. He both has a very deep technical knowledge of BJJ, and is very good at teaching it. - Great culture. I genuinely like all of the people who I train with there. No jerks, no-one with huge egos, no-one who wants to "win" a roll and doesn't care about making sure their partner is ok, no-one who is careless and risks hurting their training partners. - Safe training. I'm older and have very little previous grappling training - and I've never felt like I was at risk of getting really injured in the training. - Good at getting beginners started. Beginners start with positional training or very light/limited rolling. This is a good way to start that lets people progress toward rolling without it being dangerous or too overwhelming. Highly recommended. While there, also check out Baan Muay Thai (same physical space)- also an unexpected gem / excellent Muay Thai school."

“ 'Safety first, ego last.' I’ve trained MMA/BJJ on/off for almost 30 years in over a dozen schools. UNITA is the only school I’ve been to where every student is there to help everyone else be better. No egos. No mat killers. Every roll is chill and I never feel like I am fighting for my life. All the students and coaches look out for each other and truly understand that if everyone is injured - no one can train! Unita is the perfect school for the older Jits student looking to get back into it (or start) but are afraid of being injured, as well as a great program for the person looking to get into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu."

"Dax is the best coach I’ve ever had, he cares about you and everyone else. The other students will do anything it takes to make you better and aren’t just trying to injure you the whole time. You want to progress through the belts here. It doesn’t get any better. This place is my second home!"
